The view from here

The groundhog is like most other prophets; it delivers its prediction and then disappears. Bill Vaughn

This was a day of sunlight and shadows...a day for grumpy old groundhogs (and sleepy old women) to crawl out of their warm winter beds at sunrise, squint into the rising sun, shiver in the frosty air, startle at the sight of their own shadows.....and scoot right back to their still warm beds for a long winter nap .....and grumble a little along the way about the stupidity of anyone who would venture outside that early on a February morning! This was also a day for lighting a candle to celebrate the light.....a day for cooking a pancake and filling it with juicy blueberries....and a day for remembering that we now stand at the half way point on this road to a new season. This was a day for finding simple joy in the view from our own backdoor....simple joy in the sight of a summer memory casting it's own shadow in the sunlight! A snow filled swing that serves as a gentle reminder that no matter what winter throws at us for the next 6 weeks.....spring is just over the next hill! So, to my friends Phil (way back in Pennsylvania) and Bill (the stuffed groundhog in Unadilla that left the comfort of his local bar for a frozen parade today!) ....I say...sleep tight...but sleep fast...spring is on the way!
