Harvest moons....

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter." e.e. cummings

A harvest moon.....the first full moon that occurs nearest the autumnal equinox.....sometimes called a Hunters Moon ...or a Wine Moon. A moon that looks bigger...and brighter and yellower...for reasons easily explained in terms of illusions and angles and atmospheric conditions. Usually spotted in September, every three or four years, it graces the evening skies in early October....at the peak of harvest season. This is a moon for the birds...and bird lovers. Studies have shown that the rising of this harvest moon sends a signal for birds to begin their migration...and provides extra evening light for the bird lovers to watch it happen. The harvest moon is a time for celebrations and festivals......it rises to its fullest when the grapes are at their fullest. Harvest moons are celebrated by the wearing of purple, lighting lavender candles and sampling the deep red wines of the season. On this bittersweet day in October .. we found simple joy in the sight of not one.. but two harvest moons! Both left us speechless.....one with laughter, the other with awe. Simple joy filled moments on this perfect fall day, captured in a photograph and stored in our hearts....a gentle reminder that laughter can be an instant vacation!

Your real moon is amazing how big it happens to be. We watched it come up here in TN and it was not that pronounced. Now the other moons do show a great sense of humor. LOL Peace
