In March...

Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush.
Doug Larson
Simple joy, found on a sunny March afternoon with just a hint of spring in the air. The kind of day that held spring in the sunshine....and a sharp taste of winter in the shade. The distant honk of a large group of geese....the sound of weary travelers about to settle for the day...guided us on a detour from our usual journey home. Though there's no ducking the problems from the large groups of Canadians that pause...and settle in many areas.....the lessons to be learned from them are great also. The Canadian geese fly in V formation, each bird creating an uplift for the one behind it...and rotate the lead position when a bird tires. The birds mate for life, and when one is injured, several drop down and stay with it until it's able to move one. When in formation, the geese behind honk in encouragement to the ones in front, to keep up their speed, keep the group together. What lessons for us in the life of a goose...lessons of learning to depend on each other....lessons of encouragement, loyalty, the importance of family....and reminding us that when you have the urge to do some honking...make sure it's done for the right reason! May your March days be filled with a whistle...and a shoe full of slush!

I love you! Your insights are so encouraging to me...I wanted to talk to you yesterday about teen angst and being a mother and growing with my daughter and choices and responsibility (hers)...you always seem to have a word of wisdom. But this is what I needed to hear...this little entry on relationships and community. Another reminder of why I look forward to working with you. Ann :)
