Colors of spring

"The world is mud-luscious and puddle-wonderful."

e.e. cummings

Peeking out from under the piles of leftover leaves...bursting from the rain soaked muddy soil...are the most beautiful colors of spring! In this area, the first day of spring...and the first spring day can be weeks apart. Spring clothes can hang freshly washed in closets for days, waiting for the chance to leap into action as the long sleeves of winter make their way to the next year bin. Freshly scrubbed floors are soon tracked with muddy paw prints and the outline of tiny tennis shoes from the puddle jumpers that frequent Grandma's house. Frosty foggy mornings persist, giving way to sun touched afternoons, followed by drizzling evenings, and the cycle continues until we stop to look around....and realize the colors of spring have arrived in all their glory! Brown grass now green and growing.....tiny spring flowers in yellows and purples and whites that stand shivering and shimmering in raindrops....singing in tiny little multi colored voices of the hope and simple joy in spring. Who can resist the colors of spring?
