River Banks...

The happy heart runs with the river, floats on the air, lifts to the music,
soars with the eagle, hopes with the prayer.
Maya Angelou

There is such peace to be found on a river bank....and lessons in life from the simple joys to be found there. On a much needed break from the business of life, we spent a lazy afternoon exploring the colors and sounds of fall....and found ourselves drawn to this bend in the river. This was a fast flowing river, winding it's way through our easy day...and as we scrambled down over rocks and roots to put a hand in the muddy waters, we laughed at the reflection of the two young at heart golden oldies gazing back! There was music to be heard in the silence and sounds on the banks of that river as we stood skipping stones in the sunshine....music in the ripples of water as a bold catfish teased us with a jump just inches from our flatrock perch....and in the squawk of a resident blue heron that buzzed us, angry with our intrusion into his afternoon fishing trip! We finished the day sipping fresh cider from a local orchard...with very happy hearts....reminded that real success ...is spending the afternoon on a river bank without feeling guilty!
