All that is gold...

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
J.R.R. Tolkien
Down a winding mountain path on a clear October morning, our little band of wanderers found gold! Gold that shimmered, lit by the sun, rustling...whispering in the breeze, showcased by an azure sky. Quivering gold in the Aspens, an ancient tree that grows in families, with deep roots...untouched by frost or fire. Simple joy that takes your breath away, makes you gasp with each curve of the narrow, wash board road. A lesson in this gold that does not glitter....a lesson that speaks of the value of roots and the beauty to be found in aging, the strength to be found in family. A journey well worth the taking.....a lesson well worth remembering.....may the magic of the October Aspens touch your lives as they have ours....(and may one of those glorious Aspens send it's roots deep into the soil in our backyard!)

I love aspens...we planted three in our backyard when we moved in...two remain. The hot summers make it hard for a Colorado aspen to grow well...but there is a species especially for our area. There is nothing more beautiful than the green and gold of fall in the Rockies. Lucky you!
